It was founded by William Pigott, Sr., in 1905. It started by the production of railway and logging equipment. After merging with Portland, Oregon, firm, Twohy Brothers, Seattle Car Manufacturing Company became the Pacific Car and Foundry Company.
It participated in World War II by producing Sherman tanks for the U.S. army. Also, it produced other distinguishable vehicles as M25 Tank Transporter (The Dragon Wagon) and T28 Super Heavy Tank.
Pacific Car and Foundry Company bought Seattle’s Kenworth Motor truck company in 1945. Three years later, they purchased Peterbilt Motors Company and the Dart Truck Company. As a result, the corporate’s name changed to PACCAR Inc. In 1972 officially and the Foundry Company became just a subsidiary division.
Nowadays, PACCAR became a global technology leader in the manufacture, design and customer support of premium light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates. It is ranked the second in “big rig “truck production numbers in the U.S. and the third globally.
The development of PACCAR logo:
As a result of the previous name of PACCAR, the old logo of the company was totally different from the new one as it simply contains the old name of the company “Pacific Car and Foundry Company”.
After the acquisition of several companies, came the new logo representing the new name of the company. PACCAR logo is a very simple black one in a bold font and an italic “A” letters. The “C” letters are lining in a way as truck wheels which gives some idea about the company business.
PACCAR logo and its variations:
PACCAR logo has many versions as the company also provides customized financial services, information technology and truck parts related to its principal business. So, there is many subsidiaries that has the same PACCAR logo but with adding the name of the sub company.
PACCAR logo for the Parts company is different than the plain logo in black. Another colors were introduced like the grey and light blue for the letters with a faint blue background.
PACCAR logo for the Financial Services Company is almost the same as PACCAR PARTS but without the bold font.
PACCAR Winch Division is the industry leader in the design and manufacture of winch, hoist and drive systems. The logo here is similar to the main logo but with the addition of the sub company name and a faint blue background.
PACCAR logo for the Leasing Company which is considered a major full-service in North America, with a fleet of over 25,000 vehicles is totally different from the other logos. It contains a large “P” letter and not the whole name of the company just “Pac”.
PACCAR logo for the International company includes the picture of the earth in the familiar blue color as it is responsible for selling the company’s products to more than 100 countries outside the United States.
Above all the success that PACCAR has achieved, it has never forgotten about its responsibility towards the environmental issues. The company regularly develops new programs for the protection of the environment. PACCAR has established ambitious goals to further reduce emissions and enhance fuel efficiency in its truck models.
Also, PACCAR demontrated a strong commitment to the community as the PACCAR Foundation involves in many charitable events and donates millions of dollars for health care, higher education and arts.
I have been following this company. Its logo has gone many changes and eventually comes out much better in the end. I like the last and the latest Paccar logo.
